NM Group undertake Machine Learning research project
We are very pleased to announce that NM Group will be undertaking a new Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) with the University of Durham. This academic research project will explore the use of Machine Learning and Deep Neural Networks to innovate automatic feature extraction from LiDAR data.
Automatically extracting useful information from spatial data, such as the location of infrastructure, vegetation, buildings and powerline assets has been possible for many years. However, to get the accuracy needed to reliably identify complex powerline features in sufficient detail has been an industry challenge.
Bringing in knowledge and expertise from Durham University and combining that into a commercial arena is expected to bring considerable gains. Both in terms efficiency but also from new insights into our client’s networks. Helping operate safer and more reliable power networks.
