1000-Mile Transmission Project Underway for Northeast Utility

Posted

NM Group is working on a 1000-mile transmission project for a major US utility in the Northeast. The survey data and project deliverables will help ensure compliance and support new engineering projects.

Our engineering team is delivering advanced PLS-CADD models as part of this work. By collecting precise LiDAR and imagery data of the site, we measure the wire catenary at the time of survey. Using CAD software, we model these measurements alongside ambient temperature and line load. Applying IEEE calculations, we graphically determine the wire sag under various loading scenarios, identifying any lines that infringe on minimum clearances. This is essential for demonstrating that our client is meeting its regulatory requirements.

Beyond engineering models, we are also providing additional data products, including high-resolution imagery of the transmission structures. Utilizing a variety of camera sensors, we capture imagery from multiple angles, creating a clear visual inventory of the towers. This data aids in assessing the condition and ongoing maintenance needs of the assets.
