Working with top university to innovate vegetation management

Posted

Last week, representatives of NM Group assisted in a field course to improve tree sampling using survey data. This was part of our Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) initiative with Durham University, and has a very practical application in our utility focused survey work. Through the KTP we are able to improve on identifying and quantifying vegetation, and in particular trees close to our clients assets. This will assist with identifying trees which present a safety or reliability risk (i.e. could fall on a powerline or section of rail), and will improve the ability to manage problem vegetation. This is the second KTP program that we have worked on and the close ties with leading academic bodies has been instrumental in providing new innovations and solutions to industry.
